The Parade

The Parade or ‘Strutt’ as we like to call it in Belper.

Our first parade in 2019, exceeded all expectations with around 2,000 people walking in support of our values and many more attending the event. Covid restrictions forced Pride in Belper online for the next two years. In 2022 we came back in force with numbers far exceeding our 2019 Strutt. Estimates put the numbers at approximately 11,000 attendees across the weekend, making us the largest pride event in Derbyshire! In 2023 we experienced torrential rain but still the people came.

We gather in the Market Place from about 11am in good time for the parade to start at 12 noon. We will walk down King Street, turn left along Strutt Street, then turn right down New Road. We will turn right into Campbell Street and, at the end, we turn right back up King Street for the continuation of the day’s events.

Accessible parade route

We understand that the parade will be quite long and not suitable for everybody. We have, therefore, proposed an Accessible Route which is quite simply from the Market Place to the Memorial Gardens, down King Street, where you can get prime position and wait for the full parade to join.

We also have a Revoloo for the day, go through the Market Place and it is on the Coppice car park. This is a mobile accessible toilet with adult-sized changing bench, hoist and a friendly attendant. If you want to learn more about this service then please do take a look at their website.
